Portmaster RTM

The Portmaster RTM program is a perl script to allow ISPs to monitor current users online and idle times. This script will monitor PM2 and PM3. The program uses pmwho to extract the data from the portmaster.

0.36 contains several new features.

- 2 Bar graph readouts
0.33 new features.
one is a VU style bar graph to show bandwidth usage. To use this You need
1. MRTG installed and running
2. A patch to MRTG to create an extra data file. mrtg.patch
3. instructions to install the patch
4. The VU Gifs vu.zip or vu.tar.gz
Display is more compact and can now be set to 5 columns. This allows easy display of 23*5 Modems (115)
Added code to change colour of Time Online so ISPs can spot "Line Hogs"

Configuring PMRTM

This program requires pmwho by Johan Persson, jp@abc.se

Configure PMRTM to your setup and place it in Your CGI-BIN directory of Your webserver.

The variable $PMWHO sets the path to pmwho (or a compatible program)
- $PMWHO = "/sbin/pmwho";
$CGI sets the path and name to the CGI
- $CGI = "http://www.domain.net/cgi-bin/pmrtm.pl";
Defining your portmasters
- @PORTMASTERS = ("pma","pmb","pmg");
  this it the string passed to the pmwho program to read the data from the portmasters
PORRT is the Key letter to identify the individual Portmasters
it must match Exactly the portmasters defined above, Letters
Can NOT be duplicated and should be capitals.

$REFRESH defines the number of seconds for html auto refresh.
- $REFRESH="60";
$WRED and $WYELLOW set when the users idle time changes colour. WRED is usually set to about 75% of the auto inactivity timeout.
- $WYELLOW=6;
- $WRED=20;
0.33+ $OYELLOW, $OORANGE, $OPINK and $ORED set the hours for the time online.
Less than 1 hour will always show as white
Logons over 1 day will always be red

0.33+ $BLINKONDAY=1 will cause the users online time to blink if the user has been on for more than 24 hours.
$TITLE sets if tiles are shown on each column

$DATE turns on Date and time display at the top of the page, This option does not currently work.

$SHIP turns on Host IP display. By turning it off You can fit a lot more on the screen. a 640 wide display can show 2 columns with this on and 4 with it off.

$SECURITY sets if PMRTM will only display a page to selected hosts.
if $SECURITY=1; then only hosts in the @IPLIST can use the program, all others will be given a fake 404 screen.
Filter from DNS
This option is currently not used

$WIDTH sets the number of columns wide to set the display this can be set to 2,3 or 4 ( 0.33 Lets You go to 5 wide) @PORTS must have the same number of entries per line.

@PORTS defines the way and location of each modem on the screen.

with a PM3 you may want to list the ports Vertical

$NUMPORTSsets the number of active ports for use in generating modem use percentage.
$DUPEUSERCGI sets the path and file name to a program that will be a link if PMRTM detects a user logged on on more than 1 port.
$USE_VU turns on a bandwidth monitoring Bargraph style VU meter to monitor Your current bandwidth usage, This requires a patched version of of MRTG
$VU_SCALE is the BYTES per segment per second per VU segment

Trouble Shooting

Cells show no data
Usually this means pmrtm is not getting any data from pmwho
- Be sure pmwho can be executed by your web server. I usually chown it to root/httpd chmod 710
- Check the path to pmwho
- can You get data from pmwho on the command line

BUGS

PM3s using C0 with an analog modem.
The last PM3 in the list will trounce on the variable C0 with the data from port C0. This is also the only way in the current version to display port C0. If You define a PM as C then C0 will get over written unless PM C is the last portmaster to get queried. Future versions (0.36 and up) of PMRTM address port C0 on any PM3 as XC0, so C0 on PM G would be GC0.

Q: when will the next version be out
A: Hopefully early January, We are adding another PM3 before Christmas and will be adding any new features that we need

Q: Will PMRTM work with a PM4
A: It should, If pmwho will extract the data it will work

Q: What will be in the next version of PMRTM
A: 0.34 already has 6 column display
